Worcester City FC are sad to announce that former City skipper Barry Gould has passed away at the age of 71.

Barry was with both Arsenal and then Chelsea as a youngster before eventually making his Football League debut with Peterborough United in 1965. He made 15 League appearances for Peterborough over the next two seasons before coming to Worcester, following a trial spell with Bristol Rovers, in October 1966.

Barry went on to enjoy four distinguished seasons at the Lane, including a spell as club captain. He will be remembered as a skilful midfielder with accurate passing skills and a reputation as a reliable penalty taker. Barry skippered City to the Southern League First Division championship in 1967/68 season and went on to complete 188 first team appearances (44 goals).

Given a free transfer in 1970, he joined Dover Athletic, where he won a Kent Senior Cup winner’s medal, before concluding his playing career at Guildford City, Cheltenham Town and then Burnham.

Barry features in the accompanying photograph holding the trophy and wearing a suit.

Our sympathies to all his family and friends.
