City progress in the FA Trophy

In a freezing cold evening at the Tameside Stadium, City run out 1-2 victors and progress to the FA Trophy 1st round, securing £4000 in prize money.

Curzon Ashton started the brighter of the two sides, pushing City back and moving the ball around well. An effort in the 3rd minute from Luke Clarke nearly gave the hosts an early lead. He was first to a bouncing ball and smashed it from 30 yards. Ethan Ross flew across his goal and tipped it wide.

Curzon did take the lead in the 22nd minute through Ennis, who was first to a loose ball in the City box, chipping it over Ethan Ross and Graham Hutchison, who were both trying to clear.

Following the goal, City came to life and started passing the ball around well. They were rewarded in the 33rd minute after neat play from Tyler Weir and Micah Evans on the right hand side found Connor Hughes charging towards goal. He hit it first time, low and hard in to the bottom corner.

The teams went in at the break all square.

The second half was a lively affair, with both teams looking to progress. The game almost swung in City's favour in the 64th minute as Junior English was hauled down in the penalty area. Referee Richard Wild pointed to the spot. Colby Bishop stepped up but his low effort was saved by the Curzon keeper, Cameron Mason.

The game then did turn in City's favour in the 80th minute when Chekaine Steele appeared to get on the end of a cross the the ball was bundled in from a couple of yards out.

City then played for time, controlling possession through until full time, to secure a solid win with a strong and determined performance on the pitch.
The Blue And White's progress in to the FA Trophy 1st Round, with an away tie at York City on Saturday 10th December.
